Q: Do you guys have any animation out?
A: No not yet but keep a look out for when we do.

Q: Why are your books geared at local folklore and culture?
A: We just feel that Jamaican folklore is interesting, we saw comics as one avenue of re-igniting the interest in it. We want everyone to see what rich history we Jamaicans have for outsiders to appreciate it and for locals to be proud of it.

Q: Why comics and animation as a route for this?
A: When you look at it, our culture is dying out and we are losing it a little everyday because our kids are more interested in other cultures, so our targets became kids, because if you can instil a love for their own culture at an early age then that lays the foundation for a culturally rich adult in the long run. Have no fear though we do have books that are geared towards adults as well.

Q: What book are you most excited about?
A: The children of O we believe that book stamps everything that we are trying to accomplish here which is the ignition of cultural interest, for both young and old alike.

Q: What does the “O” stand for?
A: It stands for Obeah, but don’t worry it’s not in the regular context that we Jamaicans use it. It’s used to say “Magic” I(Negash) just wanted to say magic but using the Jamaican term which happens to be Obeah. So don’t worry there is no cutting of goats heads or sprinkling of cream soda anywhere. Relax.

Q: What is The Children of O about?
A: It’s about a young boy named Adey who through unfortunate circumstances gets joined with the trickster spirit known as Anansi. He then has to go to a known school where children who have special abilities go to learn how use them. From there he is introduced to their world and what they face and gets caught up in a battle between the children and creatures known as Jonkunoos. It’s a pretty epic tale using most of our cultural folklore icons, reinventing them to tell a thrilling story. We just hope it’s appreciated when it rolls out.

Q: Who writes your books?
A: Our books so far have all been written by Negash Davidson.

Q: Who draws your books?
A: We have Kevin Day drawing the Children of O and Negash Davidson drawing Beyond Borders. Pete McDaniel inks both books.

Q: What is Beyond Borders?
A: Beyond Borders is a romantic comedy comic book created and illustrated by Negash Davidson. It tells the story of a young man (Kojo) who is an illustrator that meets up with a foreigner (Katinka) online and falls for her, not knowing that in actuality she is a vampire. The fun starts to happen when the 2 finally meet face to face and Kojo realizes that there’s more to Katinka than meets the eye. So what happens, will they be together? Or will they part ways? That’s going to be the question for this book. Can they really fall in love beyond all these borders of being different races, cultures, countries and species?

Q: Are there any other books in the works?
A: Always, we’ll keep you up to date with any progress on new things happening here at Represent studios.
